About

Know The Artist
Janine Louise has been a professional artist for over 30 years, developing a distinctive body of sculptural ceramic work inspired by nature, texture, and organic form.
While attending art school, Janine had the opportunity to work in a stained-glass studio where she quickly became the lead artist, designing and creating custom stained-glass windows and other glass art pieces. During this time, she developed a strong foundation in composition, structure, and the interplay of light and form.
After 12 years in stained-glass, Janine began exploring the expressive possibilities of ceramics. Drawn to the tactile nature of clay and its endless potential for movement and surface exploration, she immersed herself in the study of ceramic arts, learning from many of the leading ceramic artists of the time.
Her experimentation with colored slips led to the creation of distinctive 2D monoprints, several of which were exhibited in galleries in Santa Barbara and Los Angeles. This period of exploration deepened her interest in layering, natural forms, and expressive surfaces—elements that would later evolve into sculptural vessels inspired by weathered materials and objects gathered from nature.
Her pieces reflect a deep appreciation for the interconnectedness of life and the balance between permanence and impermanence, strength and fragility. Through richly textured surfaces and organic movement, she creates work that invites reflection, calmness, and connection.
Now based in the Pacific Northwest, Janine continues to create work inspired by nature, community, and the quiet beauty found in everyday forms. Her work is exhibited in galleries in the Pacific Northwest, and she has received several awards for her ceramic art.

Artist Statement
I began my journey in clay more than 25 years ago, following a 12-year professional career in stained glass. Not surprisingly, my earliest ceramic pieces were slab-built, linear forms. Over time, my work has evolved into something more organic and free-form, shaped by a deep connection to the natural world and to the objects I gather along the way.
I am an unabashed collector of twigs, leaves, pods, rusty metal, and other found treasures. I rarely return from a walk or hike without something that sparks my imagination and inspires future work. I often incorporate organic materials into my ceramic pieces—elements that may shift, decay, or disappear over time. Their impermanence stands in quiet contrast to the fired clay, reflecting the fragile and transient nature of life. I describe my aesthetic as modern, organic, feminine, and industrial—a combination I find both compelling and energizing.
Equally important to my practice is being part of an active art community, forming friendships and collaborating with fellow artists here in the beautiful Pacific Northwest.
"Art washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life."
